So, after having a problem with my 1 usb sick not being to read or write to I decided to do some hunting for a solution. I eventually came across this link
which took me to this application
After I had done a forced disk wipe of all the data, it then allowed me to reformat the usb drive and I could then use it again.
So if anyone else has this issue in the future, you can have a look at this solution.
