I guess that day has come. Or rather, that day may never come because I may have to replace my (WORKING) Sound Blaster Live. Gah. *hatez microshaft* I own what I would consider to be one of the most widely distributed soundcards in the world, made by one of the biggest names in the business: A Creative Sound Blaster Live! 'Digital Entertainment' 5.1, to give it it's full name. It cost me a pretty penny several years ago. Can anyone provide a reasonable explanation (or even wild speculation) as to why (WHY????) Microsoft would neglect to include support for this soundcard in Windows 7? Not only does it not natively support this soundcard with in-box drivers, but it will stop you from installing compatible drivers and will not find anything when you tell it to update the drivers from the internet.] ...I'll probably only get an X-Fi when my SoundBlaster Live! stops working from old age/silicon decay :D

WHY????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
I completely fail to comprehend Microsoft's frankly idiotic decision here.
Now, I had the same problem in Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit. I circumvented it by booting Windows Vista in its "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement" mode. See the last boot option in this image:
This option allows you to install drivers containing 'improper' (or non-WHQL) signatures. Now, I can probably bypass the problem in the same way this time (Windows 7 is actually just Windows Vista Service Pack 2). But I really don't want to have to a) 'hack' my nice clean install of Windows 7 in this manner if I don't have to, and b) have to boot Windows 7 from the Advanced Boot Menu every single time I want to listen to audio...
Suggestions?
PS. It may be possible or necessary to do the same thing so that I can load those 'unsigned' nVidia WDM drivers. But again, I'd rather avoid having to perform this 'bypass' if I can help it.

X-Fi cards are supported by Windows 7. That's why you haven't had any problems there.Enigma_2k4
...I have not had any issues with either of my Sound cards... X-Fi Extreme Music and... X-Fi elite...
No, I'm afraid its not that. This card is *explicitly* not supported by WinVista/Win7.Enigma_2k4
Perhaps there is another component on your PC that's causing some crazy conflict and causing hassles.
