No, it doesn't make sense. Microsoft and nVidia dictate that it makes sense, and everyone goes along with it.
But I don't seem to be making much headway with getting people to accept that.
Carry on :)

Sure. Amongst today's throwaway (or disposable) generation. Oh, it doesn't work? Throw it away and buy another one. Oh, its slightly old? Throw it away and buy another one.Dade_182
ONLY a couple of years old in graphics cards is ancient.
I'm sorry, I don't subscribe to that outlook.
Unfortunately for all consumers, the manufacturers of these products have managed to persuade society as a whole that we need to buy and discard their products in a continuous cycle, even if the products are not faulty. You bought one of their products JUST a couple of years ago, and now you're convinced you need to buy the latest version. Even though your current version works perfectly.
What a sad, pathetic spiral consumers find themselves in. But you know what the worst part is? They did it to themselves. They ALLOWED these manufacturers create the throwaway generation, and to dictate this vicious purchase cycle. If consumers had stood up to them in the first place and said that it was unacceptable, the manufacturers would have had to toe the line. Will the situation ever improve? Only if YOU and I stop allowing ourselves to be forced to cough up our hard-earned money continually for incremental micro-upgrades. The solution starts with those that refuse to adhere to this form of oppressive capitalism.
But I suspect I'm hopelessly optimistic. By and large, the blind sheep of this world will continue to allow themselves to get used in this manner.
Shame.
I hope that Toxic_Dust saw my questions in response to his last post in this thread (on the previous page).

Haha, thanks for the response Toxic, in true T_D style !grin
Unfortunately, I've been very busy today, so I haven't yet had the chance to respond, but let's see what I can rustle up when I have a few spare minutes to rub together ;)
You, sir, are correct. A fundamental shift in mindset is needed to correct the situation. Unfortunately, mankind as a whole is entirely incapable of said adjustment. And even on an individual level, convincing people of this isn't easy.Enigma_2k4
Or, it's just human's wanting more.... I always want more and am never happy with what I have. It's a shift in the fundamental human mindset IMO
First of all, I think 'technological breakthrough' is a term that needs clarification. And I really like the thoughts that you have expressed and would love to respond to them. Unfortunately, things of Greater Importance™ than debating technicalities and hypotheticals have intruded, and I have to attend to those first]

Dont want to Rush you but since your last post there have been 252 technological breakthroughs... Care to comment?
