Spam is horrible.
Spammers collect your email address in a variety of different ways.
There's the aforementioned spyware, but that's not commonly used to find your email address - it's usually used to gather your personal details and login information, so that the spammers can engage in a little recreational identity theft.
Then, they phish. Phishing is the practice of fooling people into visiting sites that LOOK like they're the intended site, but are in actual fact fakes, set up by the phishers to get your personal details and login information (including your email address).
Unscrupulous individuals also monitor sites that require you to register (like Razor with their newsletter). If the page that requires you to enter your data isn't secure (ie. the URL - or address - for the page doesn't begin with HTTPS) then it's much easier for the spammer to collect your email address. Always look for the address to begin with HTTPS before you enter sensitive data.
Spammers also buy database information from sites that already have a large membership. It's a way for them get hold of thousands or even millions of email addresses in one easy step.
So there you have it - just a few of the ways that spammers get hold of your email address. A good habit to get into is to avoid signing up for things on the internet (except PCD ;)), and avoid including your email address when you fill in paper forms (eg. for competitions).
