Hi there excalabr
Thanks for posting your question. Could you however provide us with some more information so that we might be in a better position to help you?
* What computer operating system do you use (Windows XP / Windows Vista / Windows 7)?
* What make and model of cellphone do you have?
* Do you have the appropriate cellphone software suite installed on your computer?
* Do you have a BlueTooth dongle (typically a small USB device the size of a flash drive)?
It's worth noting that mobile data isn't cheap - using your phone as a modem could become expensive.
;-)
Hey there. I'm using Windows XP, I have a nokia n70, i have a bluetooth dongle and it's software (intalled), i know the costs of using a phone as a modem. I use proxies for browsing/downloading.
hey, don't worry anymore. i got it to work.
Apologies excalabr, I've been meaning to compose a reply to this issue but have been totally swamped for the last few days.
Could you share how you got it to work? For other users who might have the same issue.
I was going to suggest creating a broadband dial-up connection in Network settings, but that would only work if the phone was installed as a modem on the system. I'm guessing you used the Nokia OVI suite to accomplish the task?
I first tried to make a dialup connection but the bluetooth didn't want to connect to my phone. So then i downloaded Nokia Pc suite and i eventually got the connection. I'm new to "Using phone as a modem". So excuse me noobness hahaha.
Nokia's PC suite (as much as I despise it) is the easiest way to connect a computer to the Internet. But for those with a different phone, or who don't wish to use the software this is the basic breakdown of how to get it working, I've done it a couple times and this works for me, I imagine it will work for other people too:
1. Turn on your phones bluetooth and make it discoverable.
2. Plug your bluetooth dongle into the PC.
3. Right click on the bluetooth icon in the notification area and click "Add a device"
4. Let it search till it finds your phone. Select the phone.
5. Follow the instructions to pair, preferably make use of a pin.
6. Let windows run through it's Device driver processes.
7. If your phone asks to accept connections from your PC, click yes.
8. Once windows has run through all it's processes it will automatically add a Bluetooth modem.
9. To setup a Dial up connection, the easiest is just to open Internet explorer, and go to settings and the connection tab. Click add.
10. Follow the instructions for a Dial Up connection.
11. When it asks for a number type in *99#, no username or password.
If asked to select a modem, select the bluetooth modem.
If it shows a list of modems, you are looking for one on the COM port. To check which COM port, select "Show Bluetooth Devices" from the Bluetooth icon in the notification area. Go to your phones properties and to Services. It should show Dial up Networking with COM3 for example written.
Banlam, i first tried that, but the bluetooth did not connect to my phone.
