Can someone recommend me a free program to check if a HDD is faulty.
I found a 250GB lying around in one of the cupboards at home, popped it into my PC and it seems to work fine. ran the SeaTools "Long Generic" test and the HDD passed that, did a format and ScanDisk and the HDD seems fine.
I asked my Dad about it, and he said it came from one of his work computeres, the PC had been having issues, and the local copmuter shop had replaced the HDD claiming it was the cause of the fault.
Just wanting to know if there is any better testing software that SeaTools might have missed
HD Tune seems to work well for me...
There's even smartmontools which uses a dos interface...
Although I can't seem to find that currently...
Also try HD Tach.
Mainly for benchmarking though...
Seatools has been the best for me....
Any further info Banlam? Sounds like a free 250Gb boost to your PC!
Yeah, if it wasn't for it I wouldn't have installed Win7, and it's been going a few weeks now without any hiccups :D
