Well you can run Gnome 3 with Unity on the same Ubuntu 11.04 install now... They've solve the stack problem they had when it released... You should try it; the real beauty is how fluid everything is...
I tried to install Gnome3 and it completley borked my one install of 11.04.
Will try fix it once exams are over.
I have only used Ubuntu so far. 1 of the reasons why I don't wanna move over to Linux is that Wine isn't compatible with everything. (At least it seems that way.)
I assume you people use dual boot or virtual pcs to run Linux?

I have images for a Linux Ubuntu 10.10 and mint 10 on my pc, both 64-bit versions and the 32-bit versions, which is better (Mint or Ubuntu?) or are they both more or less the same? Do you have each OS on a separate partition? (I currently have a smaller partition for my windows install and then all my games, movies etc are on the bigger one)
And finally, what kind of anti-virus support does Linux have? Is it possible that if the Windows OS is affected by a virus and won't, say, let me log-in to Windows 7, that it could be fixed by booting up + scanning through Linux? Just wondering. :)
Ubuntu/Mint is essentially the same thing. Take your pick it wont really make a difference although Mint has codecs presinstalled and a different menu. (But you can change all of that.)
You do need a seperate partition for each OS yes.
Linux is pretty safe from virus' and what not, but you can install an anti-virus program if you are really paranoid and want to prevent infections from spreading your windows partition.
You could fix your windows virus by booting into Linux yes :)

I recently installed Ubuntu 11.04 on a VM to fix a corrupt download. The PAR2 parity fileset was created on a UNIX-based operating system that supports colons in filenames, which Windoze doesn't... so to fix the corrupt download using the PAR2 fileset I had to install Ubuntu, copy the files across, sudo terminal and sudo nautilus, rename the files manually... all to find out that the PAR2 fileset was corrupt in the first place!!
So that was my quick foray into Linux recently. I hope to be able to spend more time spelunking the innards...

Ubuntu 11.10 Beta 1 running with Gnome-Shell :D
Shew looks interesting. Although I haven't played much with the Ubuntu range if at all.
