Ha, awesome. I remember when I was tooling around with 3D, around 1995 and 1996 (yes, I'm THAT old). I used a program called Caligari TruSpace v1 and v2 to create some 3D scenes and animations.
I used to create animation paths
by hand, although I found out afterwards that there was a function for doing that built into the program :D
In one such animation, I created some pitted text ("Come Back Soon") in 2 lines, provided no global lights (so the scene was dark), and then manually moved a spotlight over the text, from the beginning to the end. Haha, that took me ages, but I was happy with the result. I'll see if I can dig up the AVI and post it here...
