Sad indeed... I don't have allot of time on my hands and been out of the PC scene... I'm trying to make a comeback. Lets see if we can turn this around!

Yeah, the site has gone quiet. No new threads, and the news posts I (and others) have been posting aren;t bing updated as news so why would anyone return?

Hey guys the time has come for a new graphics card!
i have a GTS250 512mb card at the moment but this card is giving me problems
so i wanna upgrade to a ATI5770 1gb which i can get for R1700
but now i dont know if my PSU will be able to run the card on max power i have a
500w superchannel powersupply my system is
2.4core 2 quad
2gig ram
1x160g HDD
Creative SB Live! Player 1024 Sound Card PCI
and then of course the ATI5770 1gig

Are there any other cards u recommed? i have about R2250 but i might need a PSU aswell so keep that in mind.

What is the ratings of your +12V rails on your PSU? And how many rails do you have? My first guess is that it won't pull it but will have to check once you provide me with the info requested.

On your PSU you will find info like the picture below. In my example the PSU has 2 +12V rails each with 18 amps. Total combined amps is however not 36 amps. There is a different way to work that out but that's not relevant right now.

I've done a bit of research and found some power consumption charts. You can look at them here and here. Even though these are from the same site and still differ, it should give you an indication as to what kind of power they draw.

Unless you have tons of components like hard drives and optical drives and multiple video cards and you're overclocking, the 500W should be plenty. When I've done power consumption tests my computer always uses like under 250-300W with a full load. So as long as you've just got the 1 video card you should be fine with the 500W, if not PSUs are fairly cheap.
